For those who enjoy Indian curries, but find traditional Indian cooking to be too involved, or even intimidating, we are here to say
that it doesn’t have to be this way!
While the term curry
has become synonymous with Indian food, it refers either to the spice blend, “curry powder” or the dish “curry” which often contains meats or vegetables in a wet sauce made of the curry spice blend. Originating as far back as 14th
century in South Asian or Southeast Asian cuisine, curry powder typically contains several healthy spices including mustard seed, coriander, cumin, turmeric, and chili powder. Commercially available curry spice blends often vary as there are many variations on the spice mix, some with up to twenty different spices!
Although most people think of curry as being spicy, the original dish in India didn’t include chili peppers and many of the curry spice
blends available in US supermarkets are mild in heat. Many of the spices in curry powder are believed to have anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, natural cleansing and metabolic properties
So how can you embrace the spice without spending hours in the kitchen? You see, we have a pretty big crush on curry, which is
why we have created two new flavors: Curry Pumpkin Pesto
and Spoonable Curry Ketchup
which we will be launching in booth #4943 at the 2013 Summer Fancy Food Show in New York, June 30th-July 2nd
. See our launch video here
Now you can enjoy the flavors of curry in a variety of dishes! And the best part is, both of the new condiments are vegan, easy to use, and versatile so that you can get as creative as you would like to be. Go ahead and invent your own Curry (powder or sauce) inspired dish and Curry on
Here are some suggested pairings using our new curry inspired condiments to get you experimenting in your kitchen:
Curry sauce + Vegetables:
Simply spoon over grilled or steamed cauliflower, squash, asparagus and root vegetables like parsnips or beets.
Curry sauce + Protein:
The possibilities are truly endless here. Try with the curry sauces over turkey meatballs, burgers eggs, or grilled chicken or fish. Or the traditional paneer
, a non-melting farmer’s cheese.
Curry sauce + Starch
: Spoon Curry Ketchup over baked or stewed potatoes or mix Curry Pumpkin Pesto into
pasta or rice to make a quick antipasti!
Curry sauce + Legumes:
Stir them into chickpeas and yellow lentils to finish the dish off with flavor.
And of course, like all of our spreads
, the two new curry flavors are great when used as a sandwich spread, in soups, or over crackers or chips, etc.
